January Joys: Superheroes and Supervillains

In case you didn’t know this already, I’m a huge nerd. I could go on for a while about that, but I won’t today.

A few years ago, a friend got me really into Marvel and while I haven’t yet stopped to read the comics, I’m always happy when a new movie comes out. It means great lines, heartbreaking moments, and – of course – lots of explosions.

Today, I got to rewatch Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Just some time with me and some of my favorite characters, my favorite people. Before today, I’d seen both of them only once, and it’s been a while since I saw them the first time, so it was nice to have a reminder of the most recent events in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before 2016’s busy movie schedule.

There’s something oddly comforting about superhero movies. Even with all of the destruction, you can believe that everything is going to be okay. The day will be saved, minimal lives will be lost, and the good guys will win. And sometimes we just need a world where those things always happen.
